Frequently Asked Questions
Using the Towel
How do I use the exfoliating towel? Wet the towel and your skin in the shower. Apply a small amount of body wash or soap directly to the towel, then work it over your skin in short back-and-forth strokes. For your back, hold the towel at both ends and draw it side to side like a ribbon. Rinse your skin afterward, and rinse the towel thoroughly before hanging it to dry.
Why is it four feet long? Japanese-style body towels are long by design. Four feet lets you hold both ends and draw the towel across your entire back — the area most people can never properly reach with a loofah, a sponge, or their hands. That length is the whole point of the product.
Do I need to use soap with it? Yes, we recommend it. The towel works with your existing body wash. The weave creates a rich lather while the texture lifts away dead skin, so you don't need to buy anything additional or change your routine.
How often should I use it? Start with two to three times per week and see how your skin responds. Some people work up to daily use comfortably; others find twice weekly is right for them. There is no benefit to overdoing it — if your skin feels tight, stings, or looks red after showering, you're exfoliating too often or pressing too hard.
How much pressure should I use? Far less than you'd expect. The weave does the work. If you're scrubbing hard, you're using too much force. Light, quick strokes are enough.
When will I notice a difference? Most people notice their skin feels smoother immediately after the first use. Changes in overall texture and how well your moisturizer absorbs generally show up over the first two to three weeks of consistent use.
Skin & Safety
Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Many people with sensitive skin use it comfortably, but start slowly — once or twice a week with light pressure — and increase only if your skin is happy. If you have eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, or any active skin condition, please check with your doctor or dermatologist before using any physical exfoliant.
Can I use it on my face? Use our facial towel instead. It's the same weave, made at a size that's manageable on the face — the body towel is simply too large to control properly there. Whichever you use, facial skin is thinner than body skin, so use lighter pressure and exfoliate less often than you would on your body.
Where shouldn't I use it? Avoid broken, sunburned, irritated, or freshly shaved skin. Don't use it over cuts, open blemishes, moles you're monitoring, or areas where you've recently had a cosmetic or medical procedure. Skip the face with the body towel.
Can I use it with retinol, acids, or other active skincare? Be cautious. Combining physical exfoliation with chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs) or retinoids can irritate skin quickly. If you use actives, space them apart from your exfoliating days, and speak with your dermatologist if you're unsure.
I'm on medication or have a skin condition. Is it safe? Some medications, including certain acne treatments, thin the skin or increase sensitivity. Please check with your doctor before adding any exfoliation to your routine.
Caring for Your Towel
How do I clean it? Rinse it thoroughly after every use and hang it to dry fully. Because the weave is open and dries quickly, it doesn't hold moisture the way a loofah or sponge does. For a deeper clean, it's machine washable — wash cold and hang to dry.
How long does one towel last? About three months with regular use. After that the weave loses its texture and stops exfoliating effectively, so we recommend replacing it.
It feels stiff when it arrives — is that normal? Yes. The towel softens noticeably once wet and continues to break in over the first several uses.
Our Other Products
What's the difference between the body towel and the facial towel? Same weave, different size. The body towel is four feet long so you can reach across your back; the facial towel is small enough to control on your face. The material is identical, so use a lighter touch on facial skin, which is thinner.
What's in the body oil? It's a fragrance-free formula built around bakuchiol in a squalane base. We keep the ingredient list short deliberately — fewer ingredients means fewer things that can irritate.
Do I need a moisturizer after exfoliating? It helps. Exfoliating clears the buildup that stops moisturizer absorbing properly, so whatever you apply afterward works better. Our post-exfoliation moisturizer is formulated for that step, but any moisturizer you already like will benefit from the same effect.
